SLIME

Daily Prompt:  Radiant, Toxic

I spent Easter with my family at my daughter Samantha’s home.  My granddaughter Alannah got slime in her Easter basket.  You heard me right, SLIME!  Now, when I was growing up anything with a name like SLIME was considered nothing less than toxic.  But this generation of munchkins is a new breed.

Alannah was sitting at the kitchen table playing with this green sparkling glowing sticky stuff.  It was shaking and spreading all over the place.  I touched it and got the heebee jeebies from it.  YUK!  She kept asking me if I thought it was pretty.  After telling her no a  dozen or more times I realized that she was not getting the answer she wanted from me and finally responded with a resounding yes.

The worst thing I can remember was silly putty.  And all that was good for was copying the Sunday comics with.  I vaguely remember my kids having something called slime now that I think about it.  It was a fluorescent green runny substance that was made popular by a TV show.

Whatever happened to getting stuffed lambs and chicks in your Easter Basket with the candy the famous rabbit brought?

SLIME aside, we did have a wonderful day spent outside in the sunshine, warm temperature, and gentle breeze.  The birds were serenading us and it was just the perfect family day.

Here’s a picture of the cardinal that joined us yesterday.

Weekend Coffee Share

coffeeshare

If we were having coffee I would tell you that it’s been a hectic week.  But, right now looking back on it I don’t know what made it that way.  Ever have a week like that?

This past Tuesday was my quilt guild’s outreach workshop.  There were forty-three of us making newborn baby quilts and hats for my local hospital.  One of the girls brought her embroidery machine with her and made the labels right away.

My friend Janet had to put her dog down on Monday so she missed the meeting.  I took her an iced coffee after the meeting.  I thought she needed a little cheering up.  Poor Finny was 17 years old.  She could barely walk at the end.  So sad.

I have been cutting out lap quilts for our veterans to make kits so that our members can put them together.  We deliver them to the VA and the VA Hospital.

Other than guild business I have just been gathering things for my granddaughter’s dance school yard sale on the 7th of April.  This is for the competition team to help defray the cost to the students.  It is unreal how much it costs for a child to compete in dance.

My daughter and son-in=law are coming down this morning to fix my outside lights.  He is going to convert them to motion detecting.  It will be nice to have them come on at night when I come and go here at the house.  I am going to see if I can get Stephen to hand a quilt hanger for me too.

I will be spending Easter with my two daughters and their families with my son face timing us from Miami.  I wish my granddaughter could be here too.  It would be great for her to get to know her cousins.

I wish ya’ll a very blessed Easter.

Liebster Award

liebsteraward

My blog has been nominated for the Liebster award by Ginger of The Bee Writes which was a very thoughtful and kind thing to do.  I have not ever participated in the award process, but this seems a little different than some of the awards I have seen.

Apparently, this award started by bloggers for bloggers and is really just a way to get people to visit blogs they may not have known about.  It is also a get to know you type deal as well.  I have decided I will participate this time.

If you have been nominated for The Liebster Award AND YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, write a blog post about the Liebster award in which the Rules are simple as follows:

Acknowledge the blog who nominated you.

Answer the 11 questions your nominator asked.

Nominate 11 other bloggers.

Ask them 11 questions.

Let them know you have nominated them.

11 questions from The Bee Writes.

1.  Where were you born?  I was born in Trenton, New Jersey.  I spent most of my childhood moving back and forth across the Delaware River to Pennsylvania.

2.  What has been your favorite pet and why?  You know I can’t choose just one.  My first dog was my dad’s before he and my mother got married.  His name was Shep.  he taught me and half the kids in the neighborhood to walk.  He would let us hang onto him and walk slowly.  Then there was Sox.  He was my cat.  He lived to be an old man of 17.  I can’t forget Bandit.  He was a Toy Fox Terrier who lived to the age of 14.  I adopted him from the SPCA in Pennsylvania.  I missed him terribly, but we had decided not to get another dog.  But, after my husband passed away I decided I wanted to get a dog.  I adopted Gracie from the Animal Shelter up the road.  She is the sweetest girl.

3.  Do you work?  If so where?  I am retired now, but I was an RN working in critical care in the Philadelphia area.

4.  If you could go exploring anywhere, where would that be?  If I could go exploring it would be to Rome, Italy.  I have always wanted to go there.  I could spend hours upon hours exploring the architecture with my camera.

5.  Your biggest regret?  I don’t really have any.  Whatever I did I did with the best knowledge at the time and always for the right reasons.

6.  How many siblings do you have?  What are your thoughts on that number?  I had one brother and he passed away three years ago.  I was lonely with only a younger brother.  I wanted a big family when I married.  I had four children.

7.  What decade do you really belong in?  This is a funny question to me.  I don’t think there is a decade I belong in this century or last century.

8.  Would you rather live in the Arctic or Antarctic Circle?  Neither, I like the Caribbean.  🙂

9.  What is your favorite artistic medium?  I am a quilter, I do needlework, cross stitch, embroidery, crewel, and love photography.

10.  Camping or hotels?  Hotels!  I am not a camper.  Give me hot and cold running water, a soft bed, color TV, and room service.

11.  Favorite school subject?  I was into science in school.

I am the oldest in my family.  I only had one brother and I lost him a couple of years ago.  I longed to have a big family.

I am looking forward to doing some photography this spring.  I haven’t done much of that since last summer.

The first sign of spring for me was a dandelion blooming in my driveway.  Even though it is just a weed, it’s bright yellow warmed my heart that the end of winter was close.

Lucky Charms

Daily Prompt:  Talisman

Have you ever had a lucky charm?  I can remember when I was a child I had a rabbit’s foot.  Remember them?  It was supposed to bring me good luck.  But, it never did.  It was just a superstition.  I grew out of believing in things bringing luck to me.

Many non-catholic’s believe that the medals we wear or the rosaries we use or the statues of saints we have are nothing more than a talisman.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.  These things are a sign of our devotion to a particular saint or to Jesus.

I wear a Miraculous Medal always.  I have since I graduated from eighth grade.  I was installed into the sodality at my parish with it.  This medal is one of the Blessed Mother.  I don’t really have a patron saint, so I adopted her as mine.  Anyway, this is an outward sign of my devotion to the Mother of Jesus.

This devotion does not take anything away from my adoration of Jesus or God.  It is simply that I call on her for help when I have a problem.  No one has more influence on God then Mary.  God chose her to be His Son’s mother.  No one has more influence on Jesus, she raised and cared for Him during his life.  So, although I pray to God for my concern, I also ask Mary to intercede for me.  It is no different than asking a friend to pray for you.

Saints have already arrived in heaven.  They enjoy the glorious vision of God.  They have His ear so to speak.  So, when we are storming heaven with prayer, they join in and pray for us too.  It’s a beautiful part of my Catholic faith.

Midnight Hamster Hunt In The Nude

Written for Linda G. Hills’ One Liner Wednesday:  The F-Word and the

 Daily Prompt:  Invisible

Many years ago I had a pool party for some of my fellow workers.  As the night went on, one of the girls asked if she could go look at the hamsters my kids had.   I told her sure, and that if she wanted one she was welcome to it.  The two hamsters that were supposed to be the same sex, produced eleven or twelve little fur balls.

These little rodents were housed in one of those plastic tunnel habitats and because of our cat, we had it sitting on the bar in our family room instead of my daughter’s room.

All of a sudden Jill comes out and tells me that there are no hamsters in the habitat.  I laughed and told her that that was impossible.  They must all be burrowed down under the nesting material.  She shook her head no, that there were no hamsters in it.

I ran into the family room and sure enough, there was not one of those fur balls in the habitat.  The little buggers chewed right through the plastic!  I looked around quickly but didn’t see anything running around.  I couldn’t believe it.  They weren’t invisible for heaven’s sake.  By now the party was over and everyone was leaving.

After the last person left, I ran out to the pool house and took off my bathing suit and wrapped myself up in a towel.  As I walked back into the house, I saw a little furry thing scurry up my drapes.  I ran for it and caught it.  One down.

I called for hubby to come help me find the critters.  So I don’t know how much time had gone by, but I was on my hands and knees in front of my door scooping up a hamster when I hear a knock on the door. Of course, in my mad hamster hunting, I had neglected to close the inside door.  I look around and see this guy standing there with his mouth open.  I looked down and realized that my towel had come loose.  I almost died.  And so did he.  I got up and ran down the hall calling hubby to handle whatever he needed.

I have laughed over this for years.  🙂
