2020 → → 2021

Did you ever think 2020 was going to end? It certainly was a very challenging year for us all. From having to stay home to wearing masks in public. Kids not getting to go to school. People having to close their businesses. I cannot even comprehend what so many have lost.

To add to my 2020 woes, I have had a series of falls. It has been unbelievable. In late August I had an episode of collapsing while walking my Gracie. I was talking to the dog and then I was being asked by two women if I was OK. I wound up in the hospital with a fractured shoulder. The same shoulder I fractured in Miami almost 5 years ago. Then I wore a monitor for 30 days which showed absolutely nothing. After my physical therapy I thought all of my problems were behind me.

I went along doing what I do. I got a little job which gave me the interaction I missed living on my own. Fast forward to December. Minding my own business I began getting lightheaded and falling again. Nothing serious happened until 2 weeks before Christmas. I had 6 falls in those two weeks. First hitting my head so hard that I had a tennis ball sized lump over my left eye, my left eye immediately swelled closed. I immediately had a shiner even Mike Tyson would have been proud of. Two days later, I had to take Gracie out before bed. I couldn’t take her for a long walk, so we just went up to the end of my building.

It happened again. I got a little lightheaded then went down. My daughter had just left. I immediately called her then she called 911. I had hit my head pretty hard on the opposite side. So I got the full treatment. Neck brace, back board, and off to the trauma center we go.

I used to work trauma but I had no idea what the process feels like to the patients. What an eye opener. I wasn’t in the center ten minutes when my clothes were cut off, a second line in, monitor on, full body check, and CT scan of everything. I realized that to someone who doesn’t understand the process is probably so scared.

Ok, long story short, I was admitted. On he 23rd of December, I was getting discharged when finally something showed up on the monitor. My heart rate was dropping into the 30’s. So, in comes cardiology. They cleared me to go home, but have to follow up this month. Since my discharge I have had someone with me. No driving, no walking the dog…and I have still had some spells. \

Other than that, I had a wonderful Christmas with most of my family with me. My daughter did the cooking and I was able to just sit and enjoy the kids.

As for the rest of 2020, the election in November, to say the outcome is a disappointment for me is an understatement. Sadly, the main-stream media has joined forces with the Far Left Rhetoric that becoming a socialist country is the right thing to do forgetting that socialism leads to communism. The government tells you what to think, say, and do. Freedoms become a thing of the past, and the individual owns nothing.

There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism – by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.Ayn Rand

I think the biggest insult to me is being told by the Biden administration that I am a racist because I supported Trump. That I need to be reprogrammed. That unless I am reprogrammed I will be a useless member of society. Does any of this sound familiar?

I hope that I can keep up with this blog better than I have in the past year. I do like blogging, I just sometimes feel as if I don’t have anything of interest to anyone to blog about. I guess we all feel like that sometimes.

Keep the faith ya’ll!

Three Line Tales, Week 124

three line tales, week 124: two colourful doors that lead to ...

Two doors joined by design or happenstance.  The pink reflects compassion, caring, and love’; the blue trust, loyalty, and serenity.  It’s life expressed in color, captured in time.  A blueprint for us to follow if we just open those doors.

Hybrids

Weekly Prompt:  Hybrid

Hybrid is a word that has become very popular over the last fifteen years.  I had rarely heard it in years past, but you hear it all the time now.  I am talking about hybrid cars.

My son got a new car a few years ago.  I was visiting him and he said so do you like the car.  I told him sure, but I would never have a black car especially in Florida.  It is so hot down there and the black car and black interior made the car so uncomfortable.  He laughed, then said it’s a hybrid.  I looked at him and I have to admit I had no idea what he was talking about.  Now, I knew what the definition of a hybrid was, but not really what it meant with respect to a car.

He went on to explain how the car worked and that it was so much better for the environment.  It was much more information about a car that I really had wanted to ever know.  But you know big boys and their big toys.  🙂

I am proud that my son is being a responsible steward of our planet.  My generation not only didn’t have hybrids, we used high octane gas that could have eaten through steel if allowed to sit on it long enough.

What I really find amazing is how long it’s been since hybrid cars have been researched, built and not produced.  It seems that we are always looking out for the all mighty dollar when it comes to changes that will improve our world.  Very sad indeed.

Who Needs the Fluff?

FOWC

Today’s word is “succinct.”  Fandango has filled the void when the Daily Prompt ended.  To join in, click the link for the rules.

Over the years I have had to attend many conferences for my nursing certifications.  I held certifications in Critical Care, Trauma, and Emergency.  I never minded going to them as I enjoyed meeting other nurses from different hospitals and cities.  It was also a way to compare hospitals and benefits.

What I didn’t like were those speakers who engaged in long explanations.  It used to drive me crazy.  I would find myself starting to fall asleep.  I loved my job and never thought it was boring, but some people just shouldn’t be doing public speaking.

There is nothing boring about critical care, trauma, or emergency nursing.  It’s fast-paced, often hard work, exciting, and satisfying.  Knowing you have made a difference in the outcome of someone’s life after illness or injury gives you a wonderful feeling.  Doctors may order the treatments, but nurses are with the patients all the time and they carry out doctors orders.  So, with all this excitement, how can a conference on the subjects be boring?

I learn best from speakers who give information succinctly  They get to the point without all the fluff.  I remain engaged and have never gotten the least bit bored or sleepy during a conference that was presented in this fashion.  I wish more nurses would spend more time learning the art of public speaking if they plan to be teaching.

Fox In the Henhouse

Fandango’s One-Word Challenge’s word for today is “Notorious

“Have you heard who’s going to be visiting the plant tomorrow?” John asked his coworker, Bill.  “No who’s coming?” answered Bill.  “Sonny Mission”, said John.  Bill looked at John and shook his head saying “I have never heard of him.”

John went on to tell Bill that Sonny Mission was the most notorious thief in the state.  He is coming to show us how vulnerable we are to break-ins.  Bill couldn’t believe that they would actually pay a crook to come into their plant and give them advice.

Sonny Mission walked into the plant.  He had a smug smile on his face and wasn’t very friendly.  The employees didn’t really like him very much and even felt uneasy in his presence.  But they kept their feelings to themselves because they wanted to support the plant’s owner.

Sonny walked along pointing out the plant’s vulnerabilities.  The owner was surprised that his plant was easy to be broken into.  After shaking Sonny Mission’s hand, the owner said his thanks and goodbyes.

That evening after all the shifts had finished for the day and the lights were out, there was a sudden movement in the back of the plant.  What could it be?  The night watchman heard it, but could not see anything.  He had a funny feeling about it though.  He called the police.

The police arrived and methodically walked through the plant.  As they rounded a corner they saw a man who was collecting computer parts.  The police approached the man with their guns pointing at him.  The thief stopped what he was doing.  He slowly turned and lo and behold it was Sonny Mission.

The night watchman could not believe that he had snuck back into the plant to steal from a man who had paid him well for his advice.  He hated to be the one to call the owner because he knew he would be embarrassed for trusting Sonny.

The owner arrived at the plant soon after he received the call.  It was a good thing the police had already taken Sonny to the station.  After looking at everything it was good to see nothing had been taken thanks to the night watchman.

The owner, shaking his head said, “Asking a thief for tips against theft is like asking a fox to guard the henhouse.”

Hidden Adgendas

Fandango’s One-Word Challenge’s word for today is “hidden

Don’t you love how some people show up acting helpful when the real reason they are there is to meet a need of their own? Most of the time it doesn’t matter as long as the task at hand gets done. But, there are times when a hidden agenda is unacceptable.

Take politicians for example. They run on a platform, get elected then throw that platform away.  Not only have they lied to their constituents, but they have shown themselves to have no honor.  What I don’t understand is why so many of them get reelected.

While working as a nurse for many years, I was witness to many family dynamics playing out in my patient’s room. The worst of it involved the use of children as pawns in parental disputes. I was privy to disappointments from parental promises that never materialized.

Hidden agendas don’t have to be a bad thing. Sometimes there are reasons why they exist. Giving a surprise party or planning a special dinner are two examples of harmless agendas.  We have all been guilty of having one or two of them.

As far as I am concerned, it is better to be upfront with people.  To be honest about how and why you are doing something.  To be genuine when you volunteer and to be charitable while doing it.
