A Simple Devotion

Oh Jesus, King of Love, I put my trust in Thy loving Mercy.

What a wonderful devotion especially for this time of the year when Our Lord’s infancy & childhood are ever present in our minds and hearts.  In the above picture, His crown depicts His kingship.  The olive branch depicts the gifts of healing and peace He offers.  With His other hand He points to His Heart overflowing with tender Mercy.

The invocation was given to Yvonne Beauvaisin a French woman on August 17, 1922, while she was visiting the monastery of the Augustinian Canonesses of the Mercy of Jesus at Malestroit in Brittany, France.  Addressing Yvonne, Jesus said: Morning and evening say, O Jesus, King of Love, I put my trust in Thy loving mercy.  On March 18, 1927, Yvonne Beauvaisin entered the community and professed her final vows on September 29, 1931.

Immediately the devotion spread and became indulgenced first to her community and later to the whole Catholic Church. The image was designed by in 1940 during World War II.  She did this to encourage the continued spread of the devotion.

The Confraternity of Jesus, King of Love is an apostolate of the Benedictine Monks at Silverstream Priory in County Meath, Ireland.

I received this from the Cukierski Family.  Have you heard of them? They are a Catholic family who have a business that makes and sells various homeopathic supplements to raise money for children who need medical attention. They also have a very large variety of sacramentals on hand. Their site is filled with a lot of information about our Catholic faith.

Holy Innocence Prayerline

I am a member of this prayer intention group online.  It is a group that many other prayer request lists filter into.  Since I have been a member I find that praying comes easier to me.  I am happier and I have more patience.  I also find I have been able to let go of some “baggage” that has been with me for a very long time.

Today is the Feast of the Holy Innocence.  They are our patron and in their name we pray for all of the aborted babies.  We also pray that this atrocity is stopped by changing the laws and educating our elected officials and the general public that abortion is murder and that every child deserves life. Please join us in prayer.

Here is the address to the prayerline if anyone is interested in joining.  dove@catholiclist.com

Happy Memories Made

We spent Christmas at my daughter’s house with my younger daughter and her husband too.  It was really a nice get together.  The kids had a ball and really enjoyed their gifts.  This year we got together later than usual.  It worked out great as the kids had a chance to enjoy their Christmas with mom and dad before we all arrived.  A good time was had by all.

It always amazes me that Christmas passes so quickly.  It’s already the 28th and I am still recovering.  LOL  I never did get those little gifties for my girls finished.  So I am working on finishing them up today.  I am wondering if I am ever going to get it together again.  Will post pictures when I am finished with the projects.

 Happy Quilting!

Almost Christmas

I cannot believe that it’s almost Christmas and I have not posted here since July.  To say things have been interesting in my life is an understatement.  We visited my son in August.  Three days after we arrived I proceeded to fall on the wet kitchen floor and broke my shoulder.  OUCH!!!  I wound up being stuck in Florida for five weeks.  We tried to come home after three, but the pain was too much so we headed over to our friends home near Orlando.  We spent the rest of the time there.  I was truly blessed I didn’t need surgery.  It was quite a significant fracture, but non displaced.

When we got back to North Carolina, I began six weeks of physical therapy.  Again OUCH!!!  But no pain no gain right?  I have regained all of my range of motion, but am still exercising to gain strength.

Needless to say this has put me wayyyyyy behind for the holidays.

We will be going to see our grandchildren on Christmas Day.  My daughter doesn’t take them visiting on Christmas so that they can enjoy being at home.  She normally has open house for family and close friends.  That’s what we did for our children.  We always went to Midnight Mass and on Christmas our parents visited us.  It was a nice tradition and my children have adopted it.

I am participating in the Christmas Novena that is being provided by Pray More Novenas.  This is a site that sends you reminder notices so that you don’t forget to pray on each of the 9 days.  It is a wonderful ministry John-Paul and Annie provide.  Sign up for reminders is easy and once you have signed up you don’t have to do it again.  I highly recommend Pray More Novenas

Needless to say this has put me wayyyyyy behind for the holidays.  So my grand-kids are getting gift cards this year.  I am still hoping to get a few little things made.  We are not decorating this year as we will not be entertaining.  So I decided to decorate my blog.  This is our tree from last year.  As you can see it’s decorated with cows.  I know, my kids think I am crazy too!  🙂

One of the best things about my injury is that I have been reading like crazy.  It was weeks before I could even type on the computer and I still have not done any sewing, and reading helped fill my days and nights.  I reactivated my Goodreads account and have been trying to update it.  One of my favorite authors is James Patterson of the Alex Cross fame.  I think I have read every book he has written, or they are on my list of books to read,  I have finally discovered electronic readers.  Wow!  I can make the text large enough for me to read it.  Seems the older I get the bigger the print needs to be.  LOL

An Ordeal Comes To An End

I have been absent from my blog due to a family illness. My oldest daughter was rushed to the hospital with stroke like symptoms. Neurology ruled out the stroke, but diagnosed her with a new migraine. She spent several hours in the emergency room and then was discharged to home after her symptoms resolved.

The same afternoon she developed symptoms again. This time she was fainting. My son in law called me to come back to their house and we again went to the emergency room. This time they admitted her to the hospital. After a few days an MRI revealed a small bleed from hitting her head. Thankfully no treatment was needed for it. However, it was determined she had also suffered a severe concussion. Kelly had no recollection of doing it. So the treatment was she had to heal. After spending a week in the hospital she was discharged to a rehab center.

The therapist who specializes in vertigo did a fabulous job with her. So, today we are sitting in her room waiting for Joe to pick us up to go home. Kelly is truly blessed to have had many many people lifting her up in prayer. And prayers do work.

So, I have been with my daughter the entire time. Sleeping right beside her both in the hospital and in the rehab center. Today is the first day I felt that I could post. I didn’t even grab knitting or hand sewing to keep me busy. I will stay with her for a day or two then go back to my house where I will thoroughly enjoy my own bed.

My New Obsession

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I have posted here. OK, I can believe it. Especially when I look back over my history here in this blog. But I really have been making a great effort not to be so lazy. And I haven’t been lazy. Just busy.

My daughter Samantha had given me a program for doing your family tree back in 2009. The idea was that we would work on it together. So I had started it, but lost interest when Samantha never seemed to have the time to work on it with me. I would go back to it every once in a while and get a minimal amount done. So when I went to work on it again a couple of weeks ago I discovered that the program I had no longer worked with the ancestry interface.

We had visited Samantha and told her I was basically stuck because I can no longer verify any information on ancestry. Stephen, my son-in-law was there and he immediately jumped on the site to check it out. He has a broken foot so has to spend a lot of time off his feet with his let elevated. Anyway, by the time I got home that night Stephen had gotten a subscription to ancestry for us and was going to town on his family tree. So, to make a long story short, I have jumped into this family tree thing with both feet. I have ancestors connected back to the 1600’s. I am have been having a ball doing it and have not done anything else. I also got in touch with my cousin I have not seen since 1958. It’s been wonderful.

I love knowing about my family roots, but more importantly I want my kids and grand kids and great grand kids to know about theirs. One of the things I discovered is that my father-in-law grew up believing that his father was an orphan. Not only is it not true, but he has quite a lineage. He passes away and never knew any more about his family. I don’t want that for my family.

So, tomorrow is guild day and I have not made my block of the month or done anything for show and tell. I walked into my sewing room and just am not inspired right now. But I did bring Hildie out to have a look and play with her a bit today. Isn’t she pretty? She’s a 1896 Singer 13649206 hand crank. And she sews so smooth.

Keep cool, it’s another hot one.

Family Is A Blessing

I have been blessed to have my grandchildren here with me. My daughter and her husband moved into a new home and we watched the kids during the process. The three of them are a handful when they are together. It seems that we can’t spend enough time with each of them so now we have started having one at a time to stay with us for a couple of days.

My youngest just had her seventh birthday on the first of July. She is spending the night with us now. It’s amazing how much she has grown up. Time passes so quickly.

I will soon have all three of my children living close to me. My son has been in Florida and now is moving here to be close to family. He’s been away from all of us for years. He’s decided that making a lot of money at a high stress job with to much traveling is not what he wants to spend the rest of his life doing. He wants a family and wants to be around family.

I have so many wonderful memories of singing around the piano while my aunts or uncle or grandmother played. Our family get-togethers were always so much fun. Growing up down the street from my cousins made us close. In my family I had love, forgiveness, support, discipline, and a strong foundation in my faith. That foundation in my faith is what brought me back to the Catholic Church.

Spending time with family has inspired me to make a family tree so that my grandchildren will know where they come from. This has been a very rewarding experience and I have learned so much about my family heritage that I did not know.

Family is truly a blessing.

TBT

I found this picture when I was going through old files on discs. It’s my high school senior picture. I can’t believe how much my youngest daughter looks like me. Been told that for years, but couldn’t really see it. Thought I’d share.

Well it’s finally happened. Our cupboards are bare. Looks like I can’t put it off any longer. Food Shopping!!! Hubby always goes with me, which you would think would be a help, but…he thinks of food shopping like it’s a date. He loves to go and I hate it. He reads every little label, and goes up and down every isle even if we don’t need anything in it. Sometimes I find excuses not to go and he goes by himself. But not a chance of that happening today. I have to run an errand too. So, one car equals we go together.

Would love to attempt to sew something when I get back. I’ll let you know how that works out. Keep cool, it’s hot out there.
