Blessed Christmas

Luke 2, 1:20

1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.  2 This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.  3 So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.  4 And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.  6 While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,7 and she gave birth to her firstborn son.  She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.  9 The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.  10 The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  11 For today in the city of David, a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.  12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”  13 And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

14 “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.”  16 So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.  17 When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child.  18 All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds.  19 And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.  20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.

I wish all of my family, friends, and online acquaintances a Very Merry Christmas.  I wish that the joy the Christ Child brings to us fills your hearts.  I wish you all love, hope, and peace this season and the rest of the year and that God blesses all of you with your needs and wants throughout the coming year.

I am celebrating with Gracie this Christmas Day.  We are on our own.  My daughter and her family are ill with the flu.  I have a terrible cold that brought on an asthma attack.  My youngest is celebrating with her in-laws.  My son and his family are healthy and celebrating at home in Miami.

Almost Christmas

I cannot believe that it’s almost Christmas and I have not posted here since July.  To say things have been interesting in my life is an understatement.  We visited my son in August.  Three days after we arrived I proceeded to fall on the wet kitchen floor and broke my shoulder.  OUCH!!!  I wound up being stuck in Florida for five weeks.  We tried to come home after three, but the pain was too much so we headed over to our friends home near Orlando.  We spent the rest of the time there.  I was truly blessed I didn’t need surgery.  It was quite a significant fracture, but non displaced.

When we got back to North Carolina, I began six weeks of physical therapy.  Again OUCH!!!  But no pain no gain right?  I have regained all of my range of motion, but am still exercising to gain strength.

Needless to say this has put me wayyyyyy behind for the holidays.

We will be going to see our grandchildren on Christmas Day.  My daughter doesn’t take them visiting on Christmas so that they can enjoy being at home.  She normally has open house for family and close friends.  That’s what we did for our children.  We always went to Midnight Mass and on Christmas our parents visited us.  It was a nice tradition and my children have adopted it.

I am participating in the Christmas Novena that is being provided by Pray More Novenas.  This is a site that sends you reminder notices so that you don’t forget to pray on each of the 9 days.  It is a wonderful ministry John-Paul and Annie provide.  Sign up for reminders is easy and once you have signed up you don’t have to do it again.  I highly recommend Pray More Novenas

Needless to say this has put me wayyyyyy behind for the holidays.  So my grand-kids are getting gift cards this year.  I am still hoping to get a few little things made.  We are not decorating this year as we will not be entertaining.  So I decided to decorate my blog.  This is our tree from last year.  As you can see it’s decorated with cows.  I know, my kids think I am crazy too!  🙂

One of the best things about my injury is that I have been reading like crazy.  It was weeks before I could even type on the computer and I still have not done any sewing, and reading helped fill my days and nights.  I reactivated my Goodreads account and have been trying to update it.  One of my favorite authors is James Patterson of the Alex Cross fame.  I think I have read every book he has written, or they are on my list of books to read,  I have finally discovered electronic readers.  Wow!  I can make the text large enough for me to read it.  Seems the older I get the bigger the print needs to be.  LOL

Guild Day News

Yesterday was our community outreach workshop at the guild. We worked on the firehouse quilts. Brunswick County has now required the main firehouse in each district to be manned 24 hours. That means there will be three people sleeping there at night. We decided to make quilts for those beds. So we have been busy strip piecing blocks to get these done. This is what we started with. Well actually I didn’t get the picture taken before the girls started going through the strips.

This is what we ended up with. 97 squares.

There were also completed quilts turned in by some of the girls.

Three baby quilts, two quilts for the nursing homes and one for our teen emergency center. We had a great day. I also delivered 18 baby quilts to the hospital and there will be five more this week.

We are so blessed to be able to meet at the Presbyterian Church in town. The room is big and bright. We have access to a full kitchen that we use several times a year for celebrations. And the best part is we have the nicest members you could ever find. 🙂 I just finally got a good picture of our 2015 Raffle Quilt. It was made by all of our members. Isn’t it beautiful? I love Christmas quilts. Maybe I’ll win it, well I can hope.
