It’s Just Another Manic Monday

Wow, can you believe that game last night?  I am not really a Patriots fan, but they sure came back strong.  I was secretly hoping that the Falcons would win.  So, now that the Patriots won, the Williams family Football trophy will move to my house for a year.  It’s been at my daughter’s for two years.  Stephen, my son in law, had the Falcons and he really thought they would win.

Do you remember that song?  From the 80’s I think.  My Samantha sang that all the time when she was little.  I had been away in Mexico and when I got in the car to go home, she sang it to me.  Funny how some things stick with you.

On February 10th my grandson will turn 13.  I just can’t believe it.  And…my youngest granddaughter will turn 1.  She’s the one in Miami.  I can’t go down for her birthday, but I am making plans to go see her later in the month.  I will miss her little party, but I’ll make up for it with her.

So, today I am going through books.  I still have my golden books from when I was little.  They are old, some have coloring in them but they are dear to my heart.  I want to clean them up a little and take some with me when I go to Miami.

Later today, I plan to make my little quilts for February.  I totally missed January.  I have the block done, just never got a border on it or quilted.

I feel like I am being pulled in all directions.  Don’t you hate that feeling?  So, I am going to get off of the computer, make myself a nice cup of decaf coffee and take a deep breath.

Have a good day and do something that makes you happy.

Super Bowl Sunday

So, who’s watching the super bowl?  It’s the first super bowl I am watching alone in over 41 years. My kids are spread all over so no get together’s like we used to have when they were young.

I didn’t watch the half time show.  I am not a GaGa fan, and can certainly do without her.  I used the time to do dishes.  LOL.

I spent a wonderful day with my daughter Kelly, her husband Joe and my grandchildren here helping me go through some of Gary’s collections.  The biggest job will be his model trains.  It’s amazing to me how much he had amassed over the past almost 41 years.

The appraiser will be here on Friday to see the house.  I will be so glad when all of this is behind me. I still am not sewing yet as I have to get the place looking like someone lives here by Friday.  🙂  But then I vow to sew at least one hour a day.

Enjoy the game!

Tuesday Bee

I spent the day at my Bee making baby quilt kits for our local hospital.  We had a great time and got about 35 kits made.  My husband used to do all the cutting for us.  Boy, was he missed today.  Bee is every Tuesday at one of the local community centers.  I won’t be able to go next Tuesday as it’s my Brunswick Quilters quilt guild board meeting.  As co-chair of the outreach committee, I go to every other board meeting.  I would much rather not have to do those meetings, and just sew and have fun, but I love working with this committee and Janet and I have worked together like this for a few years now.  We get a lot done and make a good team.

I finally have my TV room set up.  Just waiting for my new curtains.  I am getting rid of the blinds. After 11 years here I am ready for a change.  And they are so hard to keep clean.  I hate housework. It’s never ending.  Sound familiar?  Well now it’s just me here so I have no one to answer to but myself.

My friend Janet left today to go up north to visit family.  I am dog sitting Digger.  He’s a black lab who is ancient.  He’s the sweetest thing.  She usually takes him with her, but she is flying up this trip instead of driving.  Janet has watched my Gracie when I have had to go out of town.  She and Digger are great friends.  They are so cute together.  He doesn’t do much anymore, but she likes to keep at him until he pays attention to her.

I am hoping to get a little sewing done tomorrow.  I want to get the first couple of blocks done to Pat Sloan’s mystery so that I am caught up.  It’s going into the low 70’s tomorrow.  Now that’s the kind of winter weather I love.

Do something that makes you happy today.

Abortion

I guess if you visit my blog often you realize I am against abortion.  Making abortion illegal and stopping our tax dollars from paying for abortion on demand is very dear to me.  There are so many other programs our millions of tax dollars would benefit from.  For one it would help lower our national debt.

I believe we all have equal rights.  No one should have the right to murder.  It is actually illegal to commit murder right?  I have yet to hear of anyone who becomes pregnant say I am expecting an embryo, or a lump of tissue.  No, we, and I use the term we as a societal pronoun, say we are going to have a baby.  Merriam-Webster defines baby as:

plural babies
1 a (1) :  an extremely young child; especially :  infant (2) :  an extremely young animal
b :  the youngest of a group

2 a :  one that is like a baby (as in behavior)
b :  something that is one’s special responsibility, achievement, or interest

3 slang a :  girl, woman —often used in address
b :  boy, man —often used in address

4:  person, thing

When does life begin?

“The American College of Pediatricians concurs with the body of scientific evidence that human life begins at conception – fertilization…. Scientific and medical discoveries over the past three decades have only verified and solidified this age-old truth. At the completion of the process of fertilization, the human creature emerges as a whole, genetically distinct, individuated zygotic living human organism, a member of the species homo sapiens, needing only the proper environment in order to grow and develop. The difference between the individual in its adult stage and in its zygotic stage is not one of personhood but of development. The Mission of the American College of Pediatricians is to enable all children to reach their optimal physical and emotional health and well-being from the moment of conception.”
When Human Life Begins, American College of Pediatricians, March 2004

“After fertilization has taken place a new human being has come into being…[this] is no longer a matter of taste or opinion, it is not a metaphysical contention, it is plain experimental evidence….” – Dr Jerome LeJeune, Professor of Genetics at the University of Descartes, Paris, discoverer of the chromosome pattern of Down’s Syndrome, and Nobel Prize Winner, Report, Subcommittee on Separation of Powers to Senate Judiciary Committee S-158, 97th Congress, 1st Session 1981.

I have quoted the above from  Just The Facts .  Take a look at the site, it is full of information about when life begins.

Now, if you look at the definition of life, and read what actually happens during conception they are in agreement.  Live has begun.  This is leaving religion out of it.  This is simply the biological, medical and moral evidence for life beginning at conception; and therefore since our Constitution ensures the basic right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, unborn babies have rights because they are life.  Plain and simple.

For those of you who do believe in God, and I am one of those folks, He creates our life  He knits us in our mother’s womb.  He knows the number of hairs on our head.  The color of our eyes, how tall we will be, how smart we will be.  What talents we will have.  For me and for all of us, it is not a matter of simple biology, but a miracle that takes place during conception.  If you don’t believe this, just ask a woman who can’t conceive.  I believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us. Even for those non-believers.  Just because you don’t believe doesn’t mean that God doesn’t exist and that what you are living is His plan.  I know that it is God’s plan that will unfold in my life, not my plan.

All life is a gift to be treasured, loved, nurtured and lived to the fullest extent guaranteed to us by our constitution.

Have a good one.

Seven Considerations While Navigating Infertility

We often assume parenthood happens easily after “I do,” but for many married couples, it does not. For some, the joy of conception never happens. Others suffer repeated miscarriages. Still others experience secondary infertility: after giving birth to one or more children, they are unable to have another.
The pain can become overwhelming. Social media posts of pregnancies, baby announcements, or pictures of newborns may intensify feelings of being alone in the ache for a child. Attending baby showers and being around children or pregnant women can be excruciating.

If you experience difficulty bringing a child into your family, know that you are not alone. God is with you, and his Church desires to walk with you. The following suggestions may be helpful to you on this journey.  Continue with this article at the USCCB site here.

2017 Mystery Quilt – Children’s Lirbrary

I am participating in Pat Sloan’s Mystery Quilt this year. The name is Children’s Library.  I think it will make a cute quilt for my granddaughter Isabella.  My favorite book when I was a little girl was Mr. Dog.  When I would visit my grandmother, she would read it to me all the time.  I wore the book out.  It literally fell apart.  A few years ago, Gary found it and picked it up for me.  Here’s the picture of the book and the fabrics I will be using for my mystery.

I am using a fat quarter bundle of Moda’s Sock Monkey.  I had picked this up on sale a few years ago and was going to make a quilt out of it for my son.  That never happened, but he’ll get it anyway, Isabella is his daughter.  Look at the face of that dog on the cover of this book.  I think it’s so cute.
This mystery runs over 10 months, so it’s only 1 block a month.  My goal is to begin to sew 1 hour a day.  I haven’t done much sewing, except for Christmas gifts in quite a while.  It’s time I get going on it again.

Pornography and the Catholic Church by Peter C. Kleponis, Ph.D.

If you are reading this page, you may be aware that the Church warns against the use of pornography, but not know why. If you’re wondering what the church has to say about pornography and why, read on.
The church has much to say about pornography.  This is because porn injures the dignity of everyone involved – producers and consumers.  Sexuality is a wonderful gift from God!  It is meant to be shared by a husband and wife as an expression of their love which is unitive and can lead to procreation.
Pornography reduces sex to nothing more than a recreational activity where people are simply used for personal pleasure. With pornography, there is no relationship, love, intimacy, responsibility, unity or openness to new life.  People are simply treated as objects.  It is a disordered use of sexuality, which can hurt people physically, emotionally, relationally and spiritually.  Use of pornography is a grave sin.  It wounds our relationship with God, which can threaten our eternal salvation.
For married people, pornography use is a form of adultery.  For single people, pornography use is a form of fornication. Both of these are serious sins.  Pornography offends against chastity, and there are no reasons to justify its use.
It’s important to remember that the Church’s sanction against pornography is not meant to be a way of controlling people or preventing them from enjoying life.  Quite to the contrary, it is meant to protect people so they can enjoy a healthy life and live it to the fullest!

Day 13 Of My Whole30 Challenge.

This was my supper tonight.  Warm greens salad with red peppers, onions, garlic and sauteed coconut shrimp.  It was so good.  I am doing fine with this new paleo lifestyle.  I have lost over 10 pounds, I have more energy, and I haven’t had a dose of insulin in 13 days.  My blood sugar has been 98 to 112. I am so excited.  I am hoping when I see my doctor next week he tells me my blood pressure looks good too.  I haven’t seen much of a difference with my fibromyalgia pain yet, but I am very hopeful that the change will help me there too.

If you’d like to take a look at the challenge, just click Whole30.

This is a picture of a cardboard advertising sign from the bar connected to the restaurant where Gary used to work. Anyway, I am a big Kenny Chesney fan. So one night Gary brought this home, they were going to throw it out, so he grabbed it. (anyone who knew him knows he would never walk away from a free treasure) I was out, and when I got home he had it standing in the living room. Well, first of all it really startled me. But then I realized what it was and got a good chuckle out of it. I was going to throw it away, and he was having none of it. Well that has to have been at least 7 or 8 years ago. As many of you know, Gary passed away this past August. Well slowly but surely I am getting the house de-cluttered. I moved his chest of drawers and what is staring me in the face? You guess it, Kenny Chesney. I had forgotten all about it. So, today I wanted to move my mother’s dry sink into my new TV room. Not a new room, just a new purpose for it. It was so heavy, so I had a brain storm. I grabbed Kenny, put him face down and got the dry sink on top of the cardboard. That sucker just slid right into the room with hardly any effort. So, my problem is….what do I do with Kenny Chesney. I am not sure I can get rid of him now. After all he was such a help. I can see Gary shaking his head and saying “See I told you not to throw that away.”

Have a good evening!
