Here are my answers to Cee Neuner’s SYW Challenge.

What do you do when you’re not working? If you are retired, what do you that is not part of your regular daytime routine?

I am retired so I spend my days doing all of the things I never had time to do.  I quilt almost every day when I am home.  I have really gotten into my photography hobby, so every time I get a chance I grab my camera and go somewhere I can get some good shots.  I have started making jewelry, which is fun.  But my most favorite thing to do is spend time with my grandchildren.  I have four of them.  Three live close by, one is here in Florida and I will see her next week.  I am so excited.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I won the lottery I would buy myself a really good camera.  I would get a new bigger embroidery machine.  I would travel.  I have always wanted to see Italy, especially Rome, and Ireland.  Then I would make sure my grandchildren had the money to go to college when they are grown, and finally I would give to charity.

What makes you laugh the most?

Being with my friends.  I can’t tell you the amount of laughter I have enjoyed when I am with any of them.  I am very blessed.  I have four true friends.  They would be at my side if I needed them in a heart beat and they are all in different states from me.  I would do the same for them as well.  We have a long history together so explanations for laughter are not necessary.

What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology?

I hate when programs are updated when they are working just fine.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am so grateful that my girl friend’s husband is really making progress with his recuperation from his illness.  I am looking forward to his continued progress this week, and for sunny days.  It rained an awful lot last week.  🙂

The Little Batter

Daily Post:  Triumph

The little boy slowly walked up to the plate. He could barely swing the bat he held onto. It looked so big against his shoulder. He was nervous. He had never been able to hit the ball before and he was tired of being the only player on the team not to be able to do it.

The pitcher wound up. The ball wobbled across the plate. The little boy swung the bat. Strike one!

The pitcher wound up. Looked down at the batter, shook his head. The ball moved a little quicker across the plate. The little boy swung the bat. Strike two! The little boy shook his head. He couldn’t believe he had missed the ball both times.

I just can’t strike out again. he thought. Come on now, keep your eye on the ball. Remember, that’s what the coach said. Ok, here it goes. I’m ready. The pitcher wound up. He stared down at the little boy and threw the ball. The little boy swung the bat. Crack! The ball connected with the bat. The ball was sailing our over the field. Run, run the little boy heard his coach say. The little boy took off toward first base. Safe! Cried the umpire.

Everyone in the stands was clapping and cheering for the little boy. He had finally triumphed over the pitcher. His smile went from ear to ear. He looked at his dad and said “That’s how it’s done dad” and the coach just chuckled.

The Beach

Two Word Tuesday:  June 6, 2017, Amity and/or Friendship

Last summer Annie visited the beach side community of Seaside. She was anxious to get unpacked and hit the beach. Annie, who had grown up not too far from this sleepy little beach town had rarely spent any time on the beach. She hated to be in a bathing suit. Hated to show off her pale blotched skin. Kids were cruel as we all can remember from our childhood.

Annie had a skin condition which made her skin look as if it was stitched together like a crazy quilt made out of different shades of tan. It was bad enough she had to have her face and forearms exposed in the warm weather at school, she certainly wasn’t about to expose herself to the cruelty she would experience in a bathing suit. Because of Annie’s skin, she had few friendships. She was always reluctant to put herself out there.

This was a new day. Annie had finally found a doctor who had been able to treat her skin with exceptional results. She was experiencing things in life she had always shunned. No longer feeling inferior she was making friends and even dating a little bit. The one thing she wanted to do was return here to Seaside and put on a bathing suit and soak up the sun. This was something she had always wanted to do with the kids she had gone to school with. It was her victory over her past. So, dressed in a pretty pink two piece bathing suit, she grabbed her book, sunglasses, chair and left the hotel headed for the beach.

On the beach she found the perfect spot. Not hidden away, but right in the middle of all of the activity. She plopped her chair down and walked into the water. She felt the appreciative eyes of those around her watching. She smiled to herself feeling that finally she would have amity.
