Share Your World – May 21, 2018

Here are the questions and my answers for May, 21, 2018.
What household chore do you absolutely enjoy doing?

I have always loved spring cleaning.  You know the rip everything apart type of cleaning.  It always makes me feel good after my house has been given the spring treatment.  As for the day to day stuff in the house, that’s just work for me.

Create a sentence with the words “neon green” and train”.

My grandson Andrew has always like neon green just like his mama, and they have always loved trains.

Other than your cell phone what can you always be found with?

I rarely go anywhere without my camera.  I have learned that the best photo ops happen when I don’t have it with me.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

This past Friday, I attended my grandsons’ school play.  Aidan was unable to perform in the play due to his missing dress rehearsal.  He was stationed at the door to welcome visiting parents and families.

His older brother Andrew was in the play.  That is him with the mass of red curls in the above picture.  This particular part of the play was acting out a poem about taking out the trash.  It was really cute.

The entire production was the recitation of poems with acting out the scenes.  I was so proud of Andrew.  I smiled the whole time.  🙂

Here are the questions and my answers for this weeks’ Share Your World hosted by Cee Neuner.

February 19, 2018
How do you like your eggs?  In my chocolate cake.  I don’t eat just plain eggs.  I have never been able to tolerate them.  What I think is funny is I never have had a problem with them in food that includes eggs.

Have you ever met anyone famous?  Famous is a relative term.  I have met a few international quilt teachers.  I have met a few Philadelphia Phillies baseball players.  I met President Nixon when I was a kid and he came through Levittown, PA.  Well, he touched my hand, meet is maybe an overstatement.

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?  The first thing I bought with my own money was a pair of wool shorts.  I wore them until they fell apart.  🙂

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Early last Wednesday morning I awoke with a terrible pain in my left flank.  The pain was so bad, that it had me nauseated.  I attempted to wait it out to no avail.  Finally, after an hour had passed with no improvement I decided I had better drive myself to the hospital.  It’s only a little over two miles away from me.

Well, that was an exercise in futility.  I made it to my living room and collapsed onto my couch.  I hated to do it but called my daughter so she could take me.  By the time I got into the ER I thought that I was dying.

I was taken very promptly.  Before I knew what hit me they had an IV in my arm, got labs and gave me some IV pain medication and something for nausea.  Once the meds took hold, I was whisked off for a CT Scan.  You guessed it.  I had a Kidney Stone!  I have never had one before.  Being a nurse, I had taken care of many patients with kidney stones.  I thought I had empathy for them.  NOW I have empathy.  I can’t think of much else more painful.

So, what I am most appreciative of this week is that that wonderful doctor ordered pain meds.  That wonderful nurse got an IV in me with one stick that I really didn’t feel, then proceeded to administer the meds.  And lastly, I passed that stone on Saturday!

Here are my answers to Cee Neuner’s Share Your World for June 19, 2017

What is something that people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of?

I don’t get video games.  I can’t for the life of me understand why someone would want to spend their days and nights in front of a TV or video screen immersed in make believe.  I have only tried a game or two a few times and just found it to be lacking.

What quirky things do people do where you are from?

I can’t think of anything that would be considered quirky.  LOL Of course I wouldn’t think that they were quirky would I?

What are some things you wish you could unlearn?

I can’t think of anything I would want to unlearn, basically because if I didn’t think it was something of value to me I have already forgotten it.  I look at learning as a door that opens up so you can visit a new land.  Sometimes you like that place, sometimes you don’t.

Who is someone that you miss having in your life?

I really miss my dad.  We were very close.  He had a great sense of humor and was very devoted to our family.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for the fact that my friend is on vacation this week and that she will be able to take it easy for a bit.  She has been working through this time of her husband’s illness.

I am looking forward to some nice weather this week so that I can get out to take some photos.

Here are my answers to Cee Neuner’s SYW Challenge.

What do you do when you’re not working? If you are retired, what do you that is not part of your regular daytime routine?

I am retired so I spend my days doing all of the things I never had time to do.  I quilt almost every day when I am home.  I have really gotten into my photography hobby, so every time I get a chance I grab my camera and go somewhere I can get some good shots.  I have started making jewelry, which is fun.  But my most favorite thing to do is spend time with my grandchildren.  I have four of them.  Three live close by, one is here in Florida and I will see her next week.  I am so excited.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

If I won the lottery I would buy myself a really good camera.  I would get a new bigger embroidery machine.  I would travel.  I have always wanted to see Italy, especially Rome, and Ireland.  Then I would make sure my grandchildren had the money to go to college when they are grown, and finally I would give to charity.

What makes you laugh the most?

Being with my friends.  I can’t tell you the amount of laughter I have enjoyed when I am with any of them.  I am very blessed.  I have four true friends.  They would be at my side if I needed them in a heart beat and they are all in different states from me.  I would do the same for them as well.  We have a long history together so explanations for laughter are not necessary.

What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology?

I hate when programs are updated when they are working just fine.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am so grateful that my girl friend’s husband is really making progress with his recuperation from his illness.  I am looking forward to his continued progress this week, and for sunny days.  It rained an awful lot last week.  🙂

What is the most famous landmark or building you have ever seen?

I am from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area so I have been to many famous landmarks. Independence Hall which houses the Liberty Bell.  The Pennsylvania Hospital which is the first hospital in our country and it has a great museum right in the hospital. I have also been to Penn Manor, the summer home of William Penn. It is located very close to where I lived in Bucks County. I have also visited Valley Forge, Gettysburg and Washington’s Crossing which are all historical parks from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. I was at the National Cemetery and the Arizona Memorial in Hawaii when my youngest daughter was in her high school band and invited to perform in the King Kamehameha Parade.  That was a wonderful trip. Hawaii is really beautiful.   I love to visit places of historical interest.

Do you like long vacation or lots of mini-vacations?

I like to do both. I went on a cruise once and we visited seven islands in the Caribbean. That was really cool. It was like taking several trips in one.  I was amazed how beautiful the Atlantic Ocean is where it meets the Caribbean.  Up till that point I had only seen the Atlantic Ocean at the Jersey shore.  Believe me, there is no comparison.

What is your favorite National or State Park?

I think Yellowstone National Park is my favorite park. I have very fond memories of going there when I was a child. But in my teens I spent many hours in Washington Crossing State Park both in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

What is your fantasy vacation?

My fantasy vacation is to travel to Europe. I so want to see Rome and the Vatican. I understand that the art there is just phenomenal. Ireland is my second choice then Germany. Mostly so I can trace my family ancestors.

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that my dear friend is healing and getting stronger and I look forward to being able to visit my son and his family in Miami soon.

How many languages do you you speak?

I only speak English. I took three years of Spanish in high school and one in college but I don’t remember very much. I could really use those skills now since my daughter in law is from Peru.  I am working on learning Spanish again.

What are you reading, watching, listening to, eating?

I am reading a series by Sherryl Woods, The Sweet Magnolias. I enjoy the way she writes. This series is light reading and just entertaining with a little bit of a love story.  I am also reading the Interior Castle by Teresa of Avila and my bible. I go back and forth between light reading and stuff that is much deeper.

I have a few shows I like on TV.  Scorpion on Monday nights. I am a big NCIS fan the original and New Orleans and I also like Bull which is Michael Weatherly’s new show on Tuesday nights. I don’t really watch anything on Wednesdays. Thursdays I like Big Bang Theory.  On Friday I like Hawaii Five O. Saturdays I only watch races if they are on and Sundays I like NCIS Los Angeles and Madame Secretary. I also watch NASCAR and Football on TV.

My favorite music to listen to is golden oldies, stuff from the 50’s and 60’s or country. I usually listen to books on my ipod though especially when I am quilting.

I just finished eating a small bowl of chocolate ice cream. It’s a treat I allow myself occasionally. I am making salmon for supper tonight.

What was the last photo you took with your phone?

The last photo I took with my cell phone was of a grasshopper in the yard. My grandson Aidan was trying to catch it and wanted me to get a picture of it for him.

What is your favorite time of day?

My favorite time of day is night time. I am not a morning person by any means. I have always worked night shift because of it. I still like to be up late working on my blog or sewing, but since the rest of the world operates in the day, I have had to adjust. I am still not an early riser and I don’t think I will ever be one.

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for the time I spent with my two daughters and my granddaughter over Mother’s Day weekend. We spent the weekend in Myrtle Beach at Alannah’s dance competition. She had Saturday completely off so we did a little shopping at Broadway At The Beach and had a lovely dinner at the Flamingo Grill. Sunday we were up early for Alannah’s solos and awards then we spent a few hours swimming at the pool before checking out and heading home.

I am looking forward to seeing my two oldest girlfriends this week. I am going to Florida to help one out with her husband who is recovering from surgery and see the other one to just catch up. I may also see my son and his family while I am down there as well.

A Little Piece of My World

When you’re alone at home, do you wear shoes, socks, slippers, or go barefoot?

I always used to go barefoot, but when we moved into this house I started to wear slippers. I am always running outside for one thing or another and since we don’t have grass here, I can’t go out in my barefeet. Putting something on my feet to just run to the car or something is too much trouble for me. So, slippers are now part of my every day attire.

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

When I was a child my favorite food was dessert. It still is for that matter. I would walk a mile out of my way to eat a piece of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on it. I guess that explains my constant battle with my weight. Huh? But I always have loved steak, fried onions and potatoes, and salad. It is still my favorite meal.

Are you a listener or talker?

I’m a listener.  In my marriage my husband was the talker and that over flowed into our social group as well.
Favorite thing to (pick one): Photograph? Write? Or Cook?

My favorite things to photograph are animals. It’s always a challenge to capture just that right shot with them since they don’t pose on command. My favorite food to cook is salmon. I am not sure why, I just love to make salmon. It’s probably my favorite fish to eat too. Writing, well I don’t really have a favorite kind of writing. I write to force myself to do something I have always found difficult and to practice for when I am ready to write that novel some day.  I really do plan to write one.  You’ll see.

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

I learn easiest with both reading and seeing.  It’s how I have always learned.  If I had to do without one, it would be the reading.  I can usually catch onto something by seeing how something is done.
