Visitors This Morning

I was in the back of the house going through the baby clothes I had saved from my kids.  All of a sudden I hear my friendly neighborhood geese out front.  They were making a lot of noise hoping for a treat.  We usually have a big bag of corn in the ready to feed them with.  After throwing a healthy portion out for the geese, I wanted to get a little moving of them.  So, I ran inside and grabbed my phone.  It was dead, dead, dead!  So by the time I grabbed my camera they were already on their march home.  😦  I did manage to get a little clip of them walking down the street to their home.  I love how they always walk one behind the other when they are coming or going.

A Simple Devotion

Oh Jesus, King of Love, I put my trust in Thy loving Mercy.

What a wonderful devotion especially for this time of the year when Our Lord’s infancy & childhood are ever present in our minds and hearts.  In the above picture, His crown depicts His kingship.  The olive branch depicts the gifts of healing and peace He offers.  With His other hand He points to His Heart overflowing with tender Mercy.

The invocation was given to Yvonne Beauvaisin a French woman on August 17, 1922, while she was visiting the monastery of the Augustinian Canonesses of the Mercy of Jesus at Malestroit in Brittany, France.  Addressing Yvonne, Jesus said: Morning and evening say, O Jesus, King of Love, I put my trust in Thy loving mercy.  On March 18, 1927, Yvonne Beauvaisin entered the community and professed her final vows on September 29, 1931.

Immediately the devotion spread and became indulgenced first to her community and later to the whole Catholic Church. The image was designed by in 1940 during World War II.  She did this to encourage the continued spread of the devotion.

The Confraternity of Jesus, King of Love is an apostolate of the Benedictine Monks at Silverstream Priory in County Meath, Ireland.

I received this from the Cukierski Family.  Have you heard of them? They are a Catholic family who have a business that makes and sells various homeopathic supplements to raise money for children who need medical attention. They also have a very large variety of sacramentals on hand. Their site is filled with a lot of information about our Catholic faith.

Holy Innocence Prayerline

I am a member of this prayer intention group online.  It is a group that many other prayer request lists filter into.  Since I have been a member I find that praying comes easier to me.  I am happier and I have more patience.  I also find I have been able to let go of some “baggage” that has been with me for a very long time.

Today is the Feast of the Holy Innocence.  They are our patron and in their name we pray for all of the aborted babies.  We also pray that this atrocity is stopped by changing the laws and educating our elected officials and the general public that abortion is murder and that every child deserves life. Please join us in prayer.

Here is the address to the prayerline if anyone is interested in joining.  dove@catholiclist.com

Back To Normal

Well, the kids left Sunday to go back to Miami. They’ll be up here in a month or so. Can’t wait.

About that race on Sunday. Well, there were four Red Flags and a lot of rain. They put more laps down the first half in caution laps than actual racing laps. Anyway, after 5 1/2 hours the race was called and they had just gone over half way. Kasey finished 15th. I can’t say that I have enjoyed a race less than this one.

Yesterday we spent getting things back to normal here and caught up on some much-needed rest. Today I thought I would update my blog and pick out a UFO to finish. Not having much luck. I have four Cancer Survivor Quilts to quilt and a couple of Baby Quilts to put labels on for the hospital. My long-arm keeps calling my name. 🙂

Look what was outside to greet me today. A baby bunny! Isn’t he cute?

We got some other news this weekend too. My older daughter and her family are moving into a new house. It’s beautiful. I’m only sorry she’ll be a little farther away from me. But we all have to do what is best for us so I understand the move.

Boy is it hot today. Supposed to reach 100°. Thank the good Lord for air-conditioning. Keep cool!

Kasey Kahne Got The Pole!

Kasey got the pole today in qualifying for Sunday’s race in Michigan. It makes me crazy that Speed Channel sold out to Fox Sports because our cable company doesn’t carry Fox Sports 2 and that’s where they showed qualifying today. I’m sure glad Fox is committed to NASCAR. Anyway, the important thing is he got the pole. Woo Hoo! Looking forward to the race on Sunday.

Good news, the kids found a house. It’s really a nice brick 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on a great piece of property. So they were able to accomplish what they came up here for. I am going to love having them close. They have to head back to Miami this weekend. But they will be here in a month or so.

I finally finished my UFO list. I have it on it’s own page. As I finish each piece I will check it off my list.

Feast Of Saint Joseph Husband Of Mary

Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus.  It is one of the feasts of St. Joseph celebrated by the Catholic Church.  The other feast is St. Joseph the Worker celebrated on May 1st.  St. Joseph is the patron of the dying because, assuming he died before Jesus’ public life, he died with Jesus and Mary close to him, the way we all would like to leave this earth.
Joseph is also patron of the universal Church, fathers, carpenters, and social justice.
All we know about St. Joseph we learn from Scripture which is very little.  We know he was born of the house of David in Bethlehem, lived in Nazareth and was betrothed to Mary.   There is no mention of him after Jesus was found in the temple in Jerusalem.  Scripture has left us with the most important knowledge: who he was,  “a righteous man” (Matthew 1:18).
Prayer to Saint Joseph

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your devine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.
St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls – Pray for me.

Rain Rain Go Away

It seems like it’s been raining forever.  It’s gotten cold again.  I guess I should be sewing or quilting, but I’m not.  I just don’t feel like doing anything.  It’s awful.  I have walked into my quilting room twice today.  I look around and walk out.  So, I am in front of the TV watching old reruns of SVU Law and Order and playing on the computer.  I guess we all fall into the doldrums when the weather is bad for days on end.  I really thought spring was on the way.  Actually, we need the rain so I should be happy for the blessing.

I have been trying to compile a list of UFO’s.  Seems the more I look to see what I have not finished, the more projects I find.  So what I have is a list that is a UFO.  See what I mean, just can’t get myself moving.
I did accomplish one thing today.  I signed up for the March Madness on Yahoo.  Every year our family picks teams to see who wins.  It’s just for fun.  When the kids were little we would play for a prize but now it’s just for bragging rights.  It’s a lot of fun.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.  There are many a green beer raised in celebration of the day in our country.  Many communities have parades.  This custom was started by the immigrants from Ireland to this country.  OK, maybe they didn’t have green beer.  But I am sure there was quite a celebration on March 17th with traditional food and drink from their former home. Great parades were held in New York and other cities with a large Irish population.  I guess that the non-Irish thought it looked like a good time. So everyone is Irish on March 17th.  It’s sad that most people don’t remember or take seriously the reason for the celebration.   Today is the day the Catholic Church celebrates the devout life of a wonderful saint who brought the Catholic faith to Ireland.
Lorica of Saint Patrick
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.
I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.
I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.
I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation
St. Patrick (ca. 377)
