A New Chapter

I am beginning a new chapter in my life.  After the frustrations with the damage that was done to my house, I realized that I was ready to make some changes in my life.  I have moved to the city of Wilmington and have left my country setting behind.

I am close to both of my daughters so I will get to see them much more often.  And, that means my grandchildren can come to visit a lot more.  What a difference just being fifteen minutes away from them makes.

I am still unpacking and trying to get my quilting room together.  I had to give a lot of things up, but I was surprised to learn that it was easier than I would have thought.  I feel free of all the “stuff” we all hold onto.  I have learned that we just don’t need it.  Our memories are in our hearts.  Don’t misunderstand, I did keep a few things from my past.  There is always something you can’t part with.  🙂

Yesterday was my birthday.  My daughter Samantha had me over for dinner and cake and ice cream.  It was a lovely evening.  I have neglected my blogs.  I think I will now be able to put the time into them again and maybe even write something worth reading.

Hurricane Florence

Has really kicked me in the butt.  I am still not in my home and I have no idea when that will change.  Seems that many of the workers have left NC and gone to Florida which has left a big hole in the recovery of our state.

I have been blessed with a wonderful friend who has opened her home to me and made me feel as though I am home.  I miss the blogosphere.  I will return as soon as I can.  In the meantime, I wish all of my fellow bloggers a very Blessed Merry Christmas.

Just a quick update.

We are still stuck in Virginia.  The roads remain flooded in NC.  The kids and the animals are handling it well.  I dare say better than Kelly and I are.  Thankfully there is a pool the kids can burn some energy in.

It started raining here today, but it’s not heavy.  I think where we are in Virginia Florence will be missed by the storm.  I sure hope so.

Weekend Coffee Share

If we were having coffee this morning, I would tell ya’ll about my experience evacuating my home because that very rude Florence has come to visit.  She had the audacity to park right on top of my house!DnIBW26WsAUCMPr  Can you believe it?  My house is located just about where the white dot is in this picture.  Needless to say, I will most likely be going home to a mess.  However, after being in a car with 9 cats, 2 dogs, a rabbit, and a lizard, we arrived in Virginia safe and sound.

We were a caravan of three.  My son in law, his dad, my grandson and 4 cats in the lead car.  Me with 2 dogs, 2 cats and the lizard in the middle.  My daughter and grandson and granddaughter and 3 cats, the rabbit in the rear.  Just before arriving at the hotel, someone slammed on their breaks and caused a pileup.  Thank God we all were untouched by it.

So we are staying in a wonderful hotel,  Homewood Suites.  The staff is wonderful.  It’s pet-friendly so no problem with the animals.  We certainly lucked out there.

I know that I have been absent for longer than I realized.  Life has been busy.  My daughter and her kids are living with me temporarily while work is being done on her house.  So, time is limited if you know what I mean?

I would ask for prayers because I have no idea what I will find when I get home.

You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what is it? Sushi? Scotch Tape?  This is an easy one.  It would be chocolate ice cream.  I love love love chocolate ice cream.  This is the only treat I allow myself since I have gone on a Paleo diet.  

Teleportation or flying?  Flying for me.  I enjoy the experience.  I also think I would have a terrible fear of me landing at a teleportation site with parts of me missing.  Who needs that?  Of course, if it were a few pounds of adipose I wouldn’t mind.  🙂

Would you rather live where it only snows or the temperature never falls below 100 degrees?  I would much rather live where it is hot rather than cold.  I don’t do well in cold weather and I love the beach so it’s a no-brainer for me.  

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?   I really appreciated that my oldest daughter was able to take me for my procedure on Friday.  She is so busy with her family and I know that it is hard for her to get away sometimes.   I am also very appreciative that the procedure went well.  🙂

Two doors joined by design or happenstance.  The pink reflects compassion, caring, and love’; the blue trust, loyalty, and serenity.  It’s life expressed in color, captured in time.  A blueprint for us to follow if we just open those doors.

Hybrids

Weekly Prompt:  Hybrid

Hybrid is a word that has become very popular over the last fifteen years.  I had rarely heard it in years past, but you hear it all the time now.  I am talking about hybrid cars.

My son got a new car a few years ago.  I was visiting him and he said so do you like the car.  I told him sure, but I would never have a black car especially in Florida.  It is so hot down there and the black car and black interior made the car so uncomfortable.  He laughed, then said it’s a hybrid.  I looked at him and I have to admit I had no idea what he was talking about.  Now, I knew what the definition of a hybrid was, but not really what it meant with respect to a car.

He went on to explain how the car worked and that it was so much better for the environment.  It was much more information about a car that I really had wanted to ever know.  But you know big boys and their big toys.  🙂

I am proud that my son is being a responsible steward of our planet.  My generation not only didn’t have hybrids, we used high octane gas that could have eaten through steel if allowed to sit on it long enough.

What I really find amazing is how long it’s been since hybrid cars have been researched, built and not produced.  It seems that we are always looking out for the all mighty dollar when it comes to changes that will improve our world.  Very sad indeed.

Who Needs the Fluff?

Today’s word is “succinct.”  Fandango has filled the void when the Daily Prompt ended.  To join in, click the link for the rules.

Over the years I have had to attend many conferences for my nursing certifications.  I held certifications in Critical Care, Trauma, and Emergency.  I never minded going to them as I enjoyed meeting other nurses from different hospitals and cities.  It was also a way to compare hospitals and benefits.

What I didn’t like were those speakers who engaged in long explanations.  It used to drive me crazy.  I would find myself starting to fall asleep.  I loved my job and never thought it was boring, but some people just shouldn’t be doing public speaking.

There is nothing boring about critical care, trauma, or emergency nursing.  It’s fast-paced, often hard work, exciting, and satisfying.  Knowing you have made a difference in the outcome of someone’s life after illness or injury gives you a wonderful feeling.  Doctors may order the treatments, but nurses are with the patients all the time and they carry out doctors orders.  So, with all this excitement, how can a conference on the subjects be boring?

I learn best from speakers who give information succinctly  They get to the point without all the fluff.  I remain engaged and have never gotten the least bit bored or sleepy during a conference that was presented in this fashion.  I wish more nurses would spend more time learning the art of public speaking if they plan to be teaching.
