2023 Weekend Coffee Share #102

I’m glad you have stopped by. Sit down and I’ll grab us a cup of coffee.

I just don’t know where the time goes. Wasn’t it just Thanksgiving? I feel like I spend my life rushing though time. I think it’s because I am working in retail. In August we had back to school…before that promotion was over we were into the Halloween stuff. Then before we even finished with that it we were getting Christmas stuff in along with Thanksgiving product on the shelves. Christmas wasn’t over when the Valentine push started and today at work I caught a glimpse of the Wearing of the Green! And I might mention, we had a shipment of Mardi Gras decorations that was stocked last week! It’s just plain crazy

I would think I would be getting used to it since I have been working at the store for three years now, but I’m not. You know what is funny to me? I am sounding more and more like my parents. I always thought that you didn’t turn into your parents until you were old. I mean I am a mere 71 years young. So, how is this happening to me? Well enough of my complaining.

I am happy to be blogging again. I really missed it. I had my daughter here with me for a while and it kept me from my little hobbies. I am on my own again so look out blogosphere I will be blogging my little heart out. At least I hope to be doing so.

In my absence I adopted a puppy. Her name is Dixie. She’s a chihuahua min pin mix. She will be celebrating her first birthday on the 24th of this month. I love her to death, but I have to wonder whatever possessed me to get a puppy! What a lot of work! My Gracie who will be 9 in September was two when I adopted her. She was calm, sweet, trained, and quiet. Dixie on the other hand needed to be house trained, needs to calm down and likes to chew, but she is too sweeet. What great fun right? Below is a pic of my two girls. Dixie on the top and Gracie on the bottom. About 20 pounds of dog that take up almost the entire bed! 🙂 They do keep me on my toes and give me such joy.

The weather here has been crazy. Lasts week it was 70 and the trees started to bud. Which, by the way caused my allergies to rear their angry heads. Today we are back to the low 40’s and it’s cold! Not cold like back in Pennsylvania, but after being in the south for over 20 years my body feels cold.

Not much else is new this week. I am going to have a mini vacation next week. I have four days off in a row and am looking forward to doing a little house cleaning, photography, and maybe some sewing. Just a stay at home and enjoy time for me.

I’ll leave you with this: “There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.” – Michael Nolan”

Maggie from Cave Walls is taking a survey about our blogging habits.

questions below.

1. How many times per week do you post? Do you post multiple times a day? If so, how many? I have gone through long spells of not blogging for various reasons. I have recently recommitted myself to my blog. I am trying to post at least every day when time permits. After being retired I am again working full time which does limit my online time.

2. How many blogs do you follow? I guess it’s somewhere between 50 and 100. I can’t really say as I am having a terrible time locating where to find this info.

3. Do you read all the blogs you follow every day? If not, how often do you read other blogs? I don’t read all of my followed blogs every day, I do read them at least once a week, that is, when I am actively blogging.

4. Do you seek out new blogs to follow?  If so, how do you find them? I follow new blogs from links on the blogs I read.

5. Do you comment on the blogs you read? If not, why? Do you respond to all the comments left on your blog? I don’t always comment on the blogs I read because there are times I have nothing to contribute. I always acknowledge the comments left on my posts even it it is just to like it.

6. Do you ever close comments on a blog you post? If so, why? No I have never closed comments.

7. Do you ever unfollow someone? If so, why? I think I have unfollowed one blog that I can remember. If I remember right, the blog’s content changed direction into an area I was no longer interested in.

8. What content inspires you to follow a blogger? Everything from history, to humor, to learning about the blogger to photography to crafting to quilting to reading to politics to religion…my list goes on and on.

9. What content turns you off from following someone? I do not like “adult content”, smut, vulgarity, satanic, or racist content.

10. How important is it to you that you add a photo to every post? I like to add photos in my posts, but often I don’t have the time to search for the one I want so I go without one.

I will leave it at this.

Retail Rant

After many years working as a nurse and retiring, I find myself back at work in retail. I could never understand why my daughter thought that customers were such a pain, but I do now.

It amazes me that people will walk down an aisle, pick something up, change their mind about getting it then walk down the aisle and throw it where it doesn’t belong. I was actually told by a customer that I should not complain about picking up after the customers since I was getting paid to clean up after them. Biting my tongue, I just gave her a look and walked away. Since when is cleaning up after sloppy people who don’t care about what does not belong to them considered customer service?

I am a full time assistant manager who usually works the evening shift. I cannot tell you how many customers are rude, nasty, and outright threatening to myself and fellow employees. It seems more and more I have to ask customers to leave the store because of the outrageous behavior they exhibit.

The other night I had a teenaged girl shopping with her mother bouncing a basketball in the store by the glass display shelves. I nicely asked her to not bounce the ball in the store. She and her mother just gave me a look and kept walking and bouncing. I repeated the question, again nicely, and the mother said to the daughter you just go ahead and bounce the ball and to me she said she’s not hurting anyone. At that point I again asked nicely and she turned to me and threatened me. It was at that point that I removed my phone from my pocket and called the police to have them removed from the store. The mother laughed at me until she realized I was really on the phone with the police, then as she was walking out of the building she told me I better watch myself when I left the building that night as I was not going to make it home safely. You can be sure that I had the police at the store at closing to assure my safety.

Disrespect for the products we carry is only one part of it. The restrooms are destroyed on a regular basis. It is amazing to me how grown adults think it’s acceptable to write on the restroom walls with feces, leave used personal items on the floor, and steal the toilet paper!

The theft is unbelievable! As the customers shop they help themselves to snacks and cold drinks and deposit the trash from them on the shelves all over the store. The amount of inventory that is lost is amazing. Then we have people who just take frozen food out of the freezers and leave it on a random shelf. It just doesn’t make any sense.

I feel better now. I can go into work tomorrow with my sanity restored because I have been able to vent a little. Thank you my fellow bloggers for listening!

May Day…

I can’t believe it’s already the 7th of May. Where does the time go? Since I am working outside the house now it seems like it passes even quicker than it did before.

Have you heard of Home Free? It’s an acapella group that sings country music covers. I found them accidently on youtube. I love them. There are 5 in the group and they have wonderful voices. I have made their music my wind down sound when I go to bed.

Do you remember the show The Sing Off? They were the winners one year. Their videos from the show are also on youtube. They are amazing on them.

I have been planting some flowers and herbs in pots for my patio and little garden area. It’s starting to look pretty out there. I woke up today with a torrential downpour and high winds. I had to run out and rescue some of my seedlings. I got out there just in time. Phew!

Being a product of Catholic School, I always think of the Blessed Mother when May comes around. Well actually I think of Mary all the time. I do believe if it were not for her, I would have been lost. But that’s a story for another day. I fondly remember all of the May Processions we had in school and the Crowning of the statue Mary in our church. It was a big deal. The graduating class wore long gowns and were installed into the sodality. We also crowned Mary each day in our classroom. I loved when it was my turn to make her crown for the statue of Mary in my classroom.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Mother’s Day and you get to spend it the way you want.

Keep the faith!
