Happ Birthday Alannah

Today is my granddaughter Alannah’s 8th birthday.  She is quite the young lady.  She loves dancing and shopping.  Yes I said shopping.  She loves to shop for clothes and shoes and jewelry.  She definitely takes after her mother’s side of the family.

Alannah dances in competition.  She started when she was 5.  She usually wins too.  She is such a delight.  I call her my Twinkle Toes.  This is a picture of her at her recital in May.

Today is also the day we lost my father-in-law,  Hal Williams.  We can never celebrate Alannah’s birthday without also celebrating dad’s life too.

Spend some time today with a needle and thread.

Wild Wednesday

This week’s feature is the Sandhill Crane.  This photo was taken in Longwood Florida along one of the State Roads.

These cranes are monogamous breeders.  The young are able to follow their parents away from the nest within 24 hours of hatching.
You know, I just love birds.  Well that is I love to watch birds, especially ones that were so foreign to me growing up in the North.  To see these birds along the road as you are driving is amazing to me.  I always have my camera with me in the car.  Even here in southeastern North Carolina, the birds are amazing to me.  If I can safely pull over, I am out of the car with camera in hand.
Have a good day!

Wild Wednesday

Today my wildlife picture comes from Sneads Ferry in North Carolina.  That’s right near Topsail Beach.  Check it out.

He’s one big alligator.  He was stopping traffic trying to get across the road.  The gator was caught and relocated.  Hopefully he’ll stay away from the area now.
Alligators are all around where I live.  The preserve that they relocate alligators to is right across the street from me.  My neighbor had one in his pond.  We have learned to look around really well when we venture out of the house.  The truth is that they usually see you and run away.  But, if they are hungry they will go after a small child or animal.  And during mating season, they do get a bit testy.  🙂
It is so sad about the little 2 year old who was taken by an alligator at Disney.    My heart breaks for his family. I don’t know how they will be able to live with what happened.  I pray that the Holy Spirit gives them the strength to get through this tragedy.
I am spending my day putting my quilting room back together.  Before we went to Florida, I rushed around getting a few projects done to take with me.  So, I sorta tore through my quilting room like a tornado leaving stuff all over in there.  There are a few projects I would like to get finished.  My UFO list is pretty long.  I read over what I have to finish and I don’t even have half of what I need to finish on my list.  I am bound and determined to work on UFO’s before I start on any new quilts.  Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t sew for my Isabella.  I love making little girls dresses.  🙂  When Alannah was younger I made her dresses too.  It was so much fun.
  Have a great day!

Friday Reviews

I have decided that instead of me posting my book reviews as I finish my books, I would post them on Fridays.  Hence the title “Friday Reviews”.  Now I am not sure yet if I will just be posting book reviews.  I have a week to decide what all this will encompass.  I am determined to become a decent blogger and I think a little more structure will help.  But for this evening, I just have my latest two books to review.  I am not an expert in reviewing books.  I am also someone who really hasn’t found too many books I don’t like.  I truly love to read.  I like getting lost in books and just love books in series.  As I go from one to the next I enjoy becoming more familiar with the characters and see how they grow and adapt.  That being said, I am not a professional and will do my best to get better at my reviews as time goes on.  🙂

The Backup Plan (The Charleston Trilogy #1)The Backup Plan by Sherryl Woods

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you like Debbie Macomber, then you will also enjoy Sherryl Woods. This is book 1 in her Charleston Trilogy. Dinah, a video journalist working on the front lines of Afghanistan was born and raised in Charleston, SC. She bucked the “Southern” established rules to follow her dreams. She returns home suffering from PTSD after a terrible experience and decides that the man she left home ten years earlier was going to take the place of her job and dreams. Needless to say she doesn’t connect with him, but with his brother and the fireworks begin. All ends in wedding bells and happiness. A good book to curl up on the sofa on a rainy day with.

Flirting with Disaster (The Charleston Trilogy, #2)Flirting with Disaster by Sherryl Woods

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in Sherryl Woods’ Charleston Trilogy. Maggie, who comes from the elite of Charleston has always done things that her mother doesn’t approve of. She owns an art gallery which causes her parents distress because she doesn’t follow the “Southern Belle” rules. They don’t think it’s dignified for her to own a business. She has a long string of boyfriends her mother doesn’t think are suitable for her which causes her to doubt her feelings for the man she loves. Lots of romance, humor, and drama.

Today my little Bella is 4 months old.  She’s such a little sweetie.  I could just eat her up.  Here she is sporting her number 4.  🙂  She’s just started grabbing her feet.  Look at how big her feet look in those booties.  🙂

Enjoy your day!

Wild Wednesday!

While in Orlando Florida this past month, I discovered that the Orlando Sentinel runs a regular weekly feature called Wild Wednesday.  It features wild life in and around Orlando.  Well I just loved it.  So Dottie let me keep the pictures out of the paper for me to post them here on my blog.  The first picture I saw was this one.

It is a tri-colored heron hatchling from Wkodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach.  I just think this little guy is too cute.  He looks like I feel some mornings.  🙂  Talk about a bad hair day!
We drove home from Orlando today.  I got a good start on another book.  I’m glad I can read in the car.  Got in around 6 this evening.  Got the car unloaded and just collapsed!  Why does it take so much out of you when you travel? Emptied the cooler.  We’ll do the suitcases tomorrow.  I’m glad to be able to sleep in my own bed tonight.

The Death Planner (Storage Ghost Murders, #4)The Death Planner by Gillian Larkin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another Book In the Series.

I like reading books in a series, especially when the characters are warm and reading them make as you feel like you are having a nice visit with friends. This is how Ms. Larkin’s Storage Ghost Murders Books are to me. I recommend them for a fun easy read mystery.

Murder On The Menu: A Romantic Comedy Culinary Cozy Mystery (A Celebrity Mystery Book 1)Murder On The Menu: A Romantic Comedy Culinary Cozy Mystery by Zanna Mackenzie

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another book set in England in a little village. It was a cute easy read with some romance and a murder. If you like those cozy mysteries I recommend this one for you.

Isabella Update

Well my Bella is doing very well.  I wish I was in Miami right now.  We had to postpone our trip for a while.  But my son is being such a good son and calling everyday to face time so that Pop Pop and I are getting the newborn experience.

This was from yesterday.  She looks so big here.
This is from today.

Happy Birthday Isabella Rosa!

Today at 11:11 AM my granddaughter Isabella was born.  She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces.  We were not in Miami when she was born and I am just dying to hold her.  My son is on top of the world right now and I am so pleased for him.  We will be there soon.  Grami and Pop Pop are on the way.

Isabella Rosa
She is beautiful and healthy and I am filled with joy and gratitude that she is so.  Mommy is doing well too. 🙂

Happy Memories Made

We spent Christmas at my daughter’s house with my younger daughter and her husband too.  It was really a nice get together.  The kids had a ball and really enjoyed their gifts.  This year we got together later than usual.  It worked out great as the kids had a chance to enjoy their Christmas with mom and dad before we all arrived.  A good time was had by all.

It always amazes me that Christmas passes so quickly.  It’s already the 28th and I am still recovering.  LOL  I never did get those little gifties for my girls finished.  So I am working on finishing them up today.  I am wondering if I am ever going to get it together again.  Will post pictures when I am finished with the projects.

 Happy Quilting!
