The New Me

Daily Prompt:  Snack,

I love snacks.  If I had the chance to have a big piece of chocolate cake or a steak dinner, I would choose the cake.  It’s awful to go through life liking junk food so much.  It leads to so many problems.  Obesity, diabetes, back pain, foot problems… The list goes on and on. I am drawn to snack food like a magnet to metal.

Well after going on like this for most of my life.  I have begun to change my eating habits. It’s been difficult, but I have made progress and I am doing much better.  I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I wasn’t very active as a kid either.  I was clumsy and was terrible in gym class.  I couldn’t hit a ball or catch one for that matter.  I wasn’t a fan of sweating.  About the only thing I did was ride a bike.

Now I walk every day and I am healthier than I have been in years.  I have energy to enjoy my grandchildren and for that I am grateful.

The Unwelcomed Guest

100 Word Challenge:  Snake

Several years ago when my friends moved to Orlando they began to have a visitor in the back of the house by the pool. It was a big black snake. Frank would catch the snake, walk it down to the woods behind their home and let it go.

The snake would reappear under the small palm tree by the pool. He would catch it again and release it in the woods. This continued all summer long. Once the snake followed Frank out of the woods. The following summer the snake did not come back. I think they really missed it.

Cee’s Share Your World- June 26, 2017

Here are this week’s questions.

What goal are you working on now? Your goal can be something fun or extremely serious. Have fun with this question.

Right now I have my most immediate goal on hold as I am not home.  If I were home, my goal would be making my four grandchildren new quilts for their Christmas presents. They have not gotten new ones in a couple of years and I have been reminded about it several times.  I should have brought my featherweight sewing machine down to Florida with me so I could at least get some piecing done, but I didn’t give it a thought.  So, looks like I will be burning the midnight oil when I return home.

However, since I cannot work on my quilting I am working on posting on my blog at least daily.

What is one thing you’re glad you tried but would never do again?

I tried skiing when I was in college.  I made it down the hill by my own power and even standing on my skis, but I didn’t enjoy it.  I have never done it since and won’t ever do it again.  It’s clearly not my thing.

Did you choose your profession or did it choose you?

I was chosen by my profession.  Being a nurse is something I was destined to be.  From the time I was a little girl it’s all I ever wanted to do.

Have you ever gotten lost?

Oh yes, I have been lost many times.  I think it’s because I have never been afraid to jump in the car and take off to someplace I had never been before.  Today with smart phones and GPS’ it’s not nearly as much fun as it used to be.  I always looked at getting lost as an adventure.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am very grateful that my son in law is feeling better.  His diabetes was a bit out of control and he had his meds changed.

I am looking forward to getting out to take some more photos this week.

The White Monster

Three Line Tales – Week 73

three line tales 73 midsummer

After the final whistle blew all of the kids ran into the middle of the field to shake hands before running to find their parents.

It was time to go out for pizza with the other kids and the coaches and their parents which had  become a regular celebration for the players.

The white monster was tired after having balls kicked at him all afternoon and was left alone to guard the field until the kids came back again the next week.  The
